SPEAKER-DESIGNATE ANNOUNCES HOUSE OFFICERS
TALLAHASSEE-Florida House of Representatives Speaker-designate Rep. Ray Sansom, R-Destin, today announced he will appoint Bob Ward as Clerk of the House and Earnest W. Sumner as Sergeant at Arms for the House. The appointments are for a two year term.
The clerk is a constitutional officer who is selected by the Speaker, pursuant to the Florida Constitution and House rules. The sergeant is also an officer of the House under the rules and is selected by the Speaker.
Ward has spent 19 years in public service in Florida. He is a former chief of staff to Speakers Allan Bense and Marco Rubio.
Sumner has served as Sergeant in the Florida House since 1998. He was Deputy Sergeant for the preceding 22 years.
Sansom said the appointments would be effective Nov. 18 when the House holds its organization session.
